Video Simulcast

These instructions explain how to use QuickTime Broadcaster to simulcast video of events in the Martin Theater to any single location on Dalton’s network. They also explain how to record the event to DVD in the Sound Booth, and/or display the feed on the plasma screen in the lobby.

Sound Booth Setup
Turn on the Video Camera:
- Press “Power” on the Vaddio Production View unit (under the large metal cabinet).
- Wait for the unit to cycle through all the camera selections (this takes about a minute or so).
- Press the “Manual” button beside the power button.
- Press both buttons under “Input 2.”
To view the camera image and listen to the audio:
- Power on the DVD unit the sits under the 2 video monitors beside the metal cabinet.
- Press the red power button on each video monitor.
- If video monitor #2 has a TV guide listings displayed, pull down the bottom portion of the DVD player where menu buttons and other options are hidden. Press the “TV Guide” button to remove the listing on the video monitor and bring the video camera to full screen.
- Power on the speaker above video monitor #1 and turn the volume dial up to hear the audio. Note: The only audio that is actually audible is audio that running through the soundboard to the theater speakers, ie. Microphone, CD, Tapes, DVD.
If recording an event/program:
- Load a DVD into the DVD player and press “Record,” when the event/program is over press “Stop.”
- Pull down the bottom portion on the DVD player (where menu options are hidden), press “Tools” then navigate to ”finalize.”
Capture the AV Feed in the Server Room
- On the Extron switch box, set the input to #4.
- Turn up the volume knob (all the way, if this will be the sound feed for a QuickTime Broadcaster simulcast).
- (Optional) Turn on the middle screen on the Marshall video panel to monitor the feed. Note: there are no speakers in the Server Room, so the audio feed cannot be monitored from this location.
- (Optional) Turn on the plasma screen in the lobby, with its input source (on the TV, itself) set to “Video 1.”
Prepare the Receiving Computer
- Connect the receiving computer, in the location where the simulcast will be shown, to the projector and a live ethernet port. Ensure that video and audio work as expected.
- Record this computer’s IP address.
Prepare the Lobby Mac to Send the Broadcast
- Select the analog input source on the Canopus analog-to-DV converter by pressing the silver button on its top left edge.
- Click on the “Dalton Video” icon in the Lobby Mac’s Dock.
- Go to the “Network” tab of the QuickTime Broadcaster window, make sure that it’s set to “Manual Unicast,” and put the receiving computer’s IP address in the “Address” field. Audio and video settings are tuned, so make no other changes to the QuickTime Broadcaster settings!
- Save the settings, in case QuickTime Broadcaster crashes.
- Export a movie from QuickTime Broadcaster, and copy the file to a network volume.
- Click “Broadcast” to begin broadcasting the feed.
Receive and Display the Simulcast
- On the receiving computer, mount the network volume and copy the movie file exported above to the Desktop.
- Open the movie file with QuickTime Player.
- Verify that the audio and video feeds play properly.
- (Optional) Put QuickTime Player in full screen mode for the best viewing.
